DANCING WITH THE STARS—SHASTA COUNTY STYLE

This annual fund-raising event for the YMCA and the Women’s Refuge occurred on Saturday, July 12, 2008, at the Cascade Theatre and was a great success, raising over $25,000 to help Shasta County families through these two organizations. The show was patterned after the television hit with 6 area “stars” dancing with 6 area trained dancers. Each couple presented two routines--one waltz and the other, disco. The audience “voted” by purchasing tickets and stuffing them into the ballot box of the couple of their choice. At the end of the evening, all votes were counted and the winning couple was selected.

CONGRATULATIONS TO TRACY EDWARDS OF WINRIVER AND HER PARTNER MATT ARMSTRONG!!

This year’s event also included special exhibition dances performed by several Shasta County ballroom dance students and enthusiasts. Everyone looked beautiful/handsome, danced really well, and helped make the evening a great success!!

A GIANT THANK YOU TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED !!

PLACES TO PRACTICE DANCING

There are two Dance Clubs hosting dances each month.

  • Just Dance Club hosts public dances at the Frontier Senior Center (2081 Frontier Trail) in Anderson on the second and fourth Fridays of each month.  See website:  www.justdanceclub.com

  • Just Dance Club has more of a “Country Western” flavor as it combines Country Western music with ballroom music.

  • Redding Dance Club hosts public dances twice a month at the IOOF Hall in Palo Cedro (22551 Silverlode Lane).    See website:  www.reddingdanceclub.net

  • There is usually a free 1-hour lesson before each dance highlighting a different dance style each time (at both Just Dance Club and Redding Dance Club dances).

  • While most of the dance styles are represented at each dance, the Redding Dance Club focuses one dance a month on the Swing (or Club) dances (i.e., East and West Coast Swing, Night Club Two Step, etc.) and the other dance on the Ballroom dances (i.e., Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Rumba, Cha Cha, Salsa, etc.).
