HEALTH BENEFITS

Exercise for both mind and body

While the body is benefiting from the physical exercise of ballroom dance by gaining better muscle tone, strength, flexibility, balance, stamina, energy, gracefulness, and blood circulation, the mind is also being stretched and sharpened through remembering steps and concentrating on technique and musicality. Research from several studies conducted over the last 21 years shows ballroom dance to be a leader in reducing the risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

In addition, dancing frequently (2 to 3 times a week) can help reduce weight or even avoid obesity and the two most common risk factors associated with obesity—high blood pressure and diabetes. So, if you want to grow old gracefully, keep yourself intellectually stimulated and physically active by doing ballroom dance.

Stress Release

Dancing releases stress because it allows us to take our minds off whatever caused the stress and concentrate on expressing ourselves through moving to music. The pressures of a busy day or a difficult situation can melt into the background as we are transported through movement. It has a delightful way of brightening the day and putting a spring in your walk and a smile on your face.

SOCIAL BENEFITS

Social Advantage

Being a good dancer is definitely a plus in social situations like weddings, parties, cruise ships, cocktail lounges, or wherever music is being played. This is especially true for men. Ladies everywhere appreciate the gentleman who has taken the time to become a skilled and confident leader. A good dancer does not need to be handsome to be popular. By the same token, a lady who is a good dancer radiates grace and charm, regardless of whether or not she is a physical beauty. In addition, being a good dancer enhances one’s self-confidence, poise, and self-assurance.

Increased Circle of Friends

Not only will ballroom dancing bring you together with others who share a similar interest, but it will enable you to “break the ice” when meeting someone new.
